The rising economic index of India is attributable to urban society there are very few indicators of the progress in the urban lifestyle percolating to the rural markets. The rural markets have only benefited from the land prices, which the urban rich are prepared to pay for building homes, institutions, factories and golf cources.In the light of this, the new rich that will come from this Indian rural space will experiment with the urban lifestyle. And it is here that you will have the pressure of population playing on everything that was urban. The recent killing of kids at schools by their peer is a simple example of this pressure. India will have to learn how to adapt the new social changes that have come from the progress made in the last decade or so.
The killings of school boys in a posh school of Gurgaon, adjoining New Delhi, can also be attributed to bad parenting and mishandling of weapons in the house. If carefully looked, there are bullies everywhere in one’s life and in school there are many more. The curriculum of education in schools should provide for the students to be more disciplined and there should be a teachers’ group that may take care of the bullying students. Usually it is difficult to handle a big bully at school and from the reports this is exactly what was happened. In the US, student killings have been rampant all of last year.
Towards the end of year. Two Indian students in the US also became victims. Although circumstances in both the countries are quite different, human tendencies surely must have remained the same. Whatever will come out of the investigations, the assailant kids will have this ordeal etched throughout their life. That is punishment enough, but the fact needs to be seen whether it could be taken as a case of self-defenseman why should the teachers who may have known of the bullying be allowed to go free.
The apex court took harsh decisions in the last few days they pertain mainly to the state of Delhi, but are worth a look since the capital sets the pace for the rest of the country. It has cautioned the high court for giving out orders like the demolition and sealing drive in Delhi, the nursery admissions and many more instances which the court need bother their heads for. Such a move may be eyewash since there is an increased debate over the role of the ex-CJI being involved in many of the revenue-related decisions. A common way of dealing with a controversy is to rake up another. The Supreme Court has taken a view that the High court is overstepping for taking cognizance of PILs which precipitated into decisions like the ones mentioned above.
Nursery admissions rule are back again in the news for the anxious young parents of 3+ and 4+ year old kids. As was written extensively in ‘Circle’ on the last page, that the Ganguly Commission report for the admission to nursery will not stand the test of time, it has not. And the fallout has been on the parents as well as the toddler schools that will now again get a role in preparing parents for the much-feared interaction with the school authorities.
